Allow me to set the scene. I was sitting on a bench, outside of a restaurant with my smartphone in my hand. I was waiting for my college professor to send me an important e-mail about a class assignment. While I wait there on a bench, a man walks by who looks to be about in his early 60s. He gives me a snide look and says “Why don’t you just call the person!” while walking by me.
I am bloody sick of the older generation judging the 1990s babies for using their phones all the time. We have access to the world’s information at our fingertips, yet somehow this is a bad thing according to the older generation. What if I was waiting on a phone call about important medical information? What if I was waiting for an important e-mail from a family member? What if I was looking up important information for a class assignment?
Before we had smartphones, we had cell-phones and hand-held game devices like Gameboy Colors and Gameboy Advances. The point is, we always had something at our fingertips (books, newspapers, school assignments, work assignments, etc.) to distract ourselves from other people. With smartphones, we can be notified immediately if something in our life goes array (death of a loved one, serious injury to a friend, important call about one’s medical health, etc.). I will never understand why older generations don’t see the value in having all of this information and news at our fingertips.
