A potentially dangerous allure for many

If you are currently fighting a mental illness, specific to depression, eating disorder, and/or anxiety, read on with caution. This article goes into graphic descriptions of symptoms as well as my personal history with it. Viewer discretion is advised.

When I was going to college, I fell into clinical depression. Mind you, I was not aware of it at the time. However, looking back, the symptoms are crystal clear (especially with me being overall better educated on different types of mental illness now). Around my junior-senior year, specifically (I was 20–21 years old), is when it got bad. Between my rocky relationship with my family, a medication that was causing my weight to rapidly fluctuate, a very low sense of self-esteem, and increasing pressure from grades, it all collided in the worst way possible.

I learned about minimalism around these years of my life. At first, I found it great and thought it would be a great way to help the finances and just overall get rid of clutter in my life. However, adapting the “lifestyle” and “motto” made my depression so much worse.
