I grew up as “the” child obsessed with the macabre, oddities, and vampires. When I was young, since I grew up in the USA, my first introduction to Kali from Hinduism was the film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. For whatever reason, her image had stuck in the back of my mind before I really began exploring her in my late teenage years. Growing up, I would love to pretend I was a vampire. I was fascinated by vampire mythology. The first vampiric book I read was Midnight Mass by F. Paul Wilson, a post-apocalyptic book about a group of misfits (lesbian daughter of a priest, ex-rabbi, and nun who heard violent voices in her head) trying to save what was little left of the world they lived in, where vampires had come out and essentially killed and/or turned the majority of the human population on Earth. Oh yes, it was a wild ride.

As young, impressionable adolescence on the internet (I was born in the mid-1990s for reference sake), I would often find internet message boards that discussed the fantastical and paranormal. One phenomenon that would sometimes be discussed is what’s called “phantom fangs”, where one would feel like their fangs were longer than what they actually were (which as we all know as sensible adults, our canine teeth can NOT actually elongate themselves).
