A quick warning — this will be discussing the finale to Squid Game so obvious spoiler warning for those who have not finished the series.

Squid Game has taken the internet by storm. It is on Netflix’s Top 5 most-watched series. We see some popular Korean actors from other movies make an appearance within the show (like Gong Yoo who appeared in Train to Busan). We also see a series of “games” with a dangerous twist to them. People, in general, seem to have always had a fascination with these types of setups (Hunger Games, Alice in Borderland, Battle Royale, among many others). However, the ending of Squid Game honestly felt like a slap in the face.

The old man wanted to set up these games to “have a good time” and feel like “he was young again” by playing these dangerous games that were reminiscent of children’s games he played as a boy (“Skipping Stones” with the glass was questionable considering the setup though I feel for Americans this is most similar to hopscotch). Do you know where he could have relieved this childhood fantasy? In a nursing home where they have enrichment programs for the elderly.
