To me, podcasting isn't podcasting if it involves a video. That's known as "v-logging". It's a more old school term, but it captures a similar field to podcasting. Podcasting that's strictly audio never really died. It only skyrocketed in popularity during COVID pandemic lockdown (2019-2020) because people were bored and were desperate for any kind of entertainment they could easily get access to (or make themselves). This is why in my opinion podcasting took off in popularity during these years (as well as apps like Tumblr). However, as people stated to get back to their "normal" life (2021-2022), this is why interest in podcasting has gradually been declining.
