Why gun control isn’t working

We need to have an open conversation about guns in America without either end automatically shutting down the other person

Ah, American gun laws. A source of constant stress for many Americans, given the fact of how much gun violence has been happening over the years. I write this with a background in public health (a graduate degree in policy and management to be specific), as well as having spent 97% of my life in this country (that last tiny percent is the result of me being adopted from outside the country as an infant). There are many reasons why the numerous gun regulations, statutes, and laws simply aren’t working in America. This article is going to go into a few reasons why. This is by no means a full, comprehensive list, however, it does provide a good, basic, introductory level of information for this topic.

The Science.
There isn’t a lot of data about gun violence, gun usage, the type of violence by guns (homicide vs suicide for example), etc. The reason this is, is because of strangleholds that have been on the CDC. It wasn’t until recent years where bans on formal, peer-review studies on gun violence by the CDC have been lifted. Because of the stranglehold that’s been on the CDC, the public has not been able to be informed about the reality of guns and the potential violence they cause (outside of the media letting us know about mass shootings that occur).
